Christmas Is All About Love

by

I'm getting concerned about Christmas,
The pressure to make it "just right";
To own all the latest, the faddy, the "in",
A black Christmas tree? What a fright!

I'm really alarmed about Christmas,
The traffic, the crowds and the trash;
The catalogues start to arrive in July,
We've been hoodwinked! It's all about cash!

With "two for one" chocolates in August,
They tell us "Buy early" and such;
We raid our stores in the spare bedroom,
Thus, they get us to eat twice as much!

True, I'll buy everyone a nice present,
But refuse to go over the top;
With houses all stuffed to the gunnels,
This excess - it really should stop.

And I'll concentrate more on the good things,
Those that money never supplies;
The friendships, the warmth, the traditions I like,
And renewal of family ties.

Thus, I'll bring out my miniature Crib scene,
It can have pride of place in the hall;
The shepherds, the kings, and an angel above,
And the Baby asleep in the stall.

I will relish the old Christmas carols,
And send cards that show churches, and snow;
When I hang up a velveteen stocking,
There's emotion that gives me a glow.

My kitchen all warm with some baking,
Though I'm mostly the only one there;
Mince pies and rich cake! Throw a party!
The fun of it all is to share!

There's a sparkle around in December,
What if skies are so dark up above?
The secret is just to remember
That Christmas is all about love!
